Milestone in Singapore shipping history – AirFish8-001 officially registered as a ship in the Singapore Registry of Ships Mar 2010

A milestone was achieved in Singapore shipping history as AirFish8-001 becomes the first Wing-In-Ground effect (WIG) craft to be registered in the Singapore Registry of Ships by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

Wigetworks Pte Ltd, a Singapore registered company and owner of the AirFish8-001 WIG craft, has formally registered AirFish 8-001 as a Singapore registered ship on 30 Mar 10 under the The Merchant Shipping Act (Chapter 179).

Wigetworks Pte Ltd and Singapore Maritime Academy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to review, develop and obtain accreditation for training of WIG Captains. Also included in the arrangement is the development and building of WIG simulators to facilitate training.
